When my dear friend announced that she was soon releasing a Fall 2016 fashion line, I jumped at the chance to photograph her new collection! Tiffany, Owner and Creator of the most adorable little girl’s clothing brand, Peyper Kids (formally Peyton's Lane), is a true artist when it comes to design and style. From her own home decor to party planning and styling outfits for her two little beauties Peyton & Piper, not a detail goes unnoticed. I am completely in awe of her passion and gift for creating everything lovely and am so excited to share with y’all this interview and some of my favorite shots from our recent studio shoot in The Woodlands, TX!
Q: WHEN DID YOU LEARN TO SEW?
A: I first started to sew when my daughter, Peyton, was born. I wanted to make heirlooms to pass down to her so my husband bought me a sewing machine as a present. I am completely self taught. I remember a very brief amount from home economics but most was tutorials online and trial and error.
Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?
A: My daughters are my inspiration, I create items that are functional and wearable for babies and toddlers for everyday and special occasions. My brand is a classically modern girl with neutrals but also color.
Q: HOW HAS PEYPER KIDS EVOLVED?
A: Well I started out making headbands and now strictly do clothing. Then started with mostly baby clothing and now have grown to up to 6T.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING A SMALL SHOP OWNER?
A: The ability to create my own schedule and have time with my kids. I also have a say in what I can create and the direction I want to take my business.
Q: HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE IN YOUR HOME/FAMILY LIFE AND YOUR BUSINESS?
A: That is a challenge. I only sew after the kids are in bed but I answer emails, work on social media during my down time during the day. My family comes first, I started out staying at home to be with my kids and this is such a short time till they are off to school that I want to be present with them.
Q: WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
A: I’ve always been a creative person and I thrive on it. This has been my outlet to let my creativity run free. Each season I get to create a new line with new designs and styles. Whenever I see a customer photo it reaffirms my love for what I do. There is nothing more special than seeing someone support a handmade shop and being part of someones life.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE/DESIGN SO FAR?
A: Every season I have a new favorite piece or design but in general I love making twirly dresses (and most popular) , they are functional as a dress and can turn into a top later down the road. My second favorite is a romper because they are so classic and everybody loves a little romper on their baby, right?! From this fall season, I love our Annie Dress, made from the new Rifle Paper Co. fabric. It’s so soft, twirly and has the daintiest details.
Q: DO YOU HAVE OTHER CREATIVE HOBBIES?
A: Peyper Kids takes up most of my extra time but when I’m not creating something for the business, I love to plan parties/playdates, interior design and try to do some artwork here and there.
Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE PEYPER KIDS IN 5 YEARS?
A: I’d really love to move to a ready to ship company and have a couple seamstresses on board. Right now it is just me, demand is continuing to grow and thus I will have to continue growing my team.
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR OTHER FAVORITE SHOPS?
Q: WHAT MAKES YOU SMILE?
A: That’s the easy, my girls and my husband. I am blessed to have them in my life.
